Hello, we are Chrissy and Barry Gough who run Cara Dog Training personally.
Our aim is for you to enjoy your training — see our Members Page — 45 dogs in one hall all enjoying their Christmas Party! Our Care And Reward Assisted training style will help you achieve this through our friendly and relaxed approach. Chrissy has trained dogs since 1990. She is a Member of the Institute for Animal Care Education (MIACE) having obtained a Distinction in her Training Coursework and Assessments. She has also undertaken a Canine Psychology Course; is an Full Member of the PDTE (Pet Dog Trainers of Europe) and recently presented a talk at their Conference in Oslo about training Deaf Dogs. She is also and a Member of the Association of INTO DOGS. Both Chrissy and Barry are Association of Pet Dog Trainers Members (APDT 653 & 893). Barry is an Academy of Dog Training Behaviour (ADTB) Gold Level Instructor and he also deals with the bulk of our administration. Our Senior Trainer is Karen Callaghan an ADTB Gold Level Instructor and Assistant Trainers are Mary Hutchins & Jenni Drake both Student members of ADTB, together with Jacqui Watts a Student Member of IACE (Institute of Animal Care Education) who runs our Summertime Agility Classes with Chrissy. These ladies entered the world of instructing after training their dogs with us which helped develop their natural enthusiasm, handling and training skills. One to one Training is available to address specific problems, or by structured courses for those unable to attend classes. Some clients like to spend an hour in their own homes or in areas of the New Forest discussing and honing their Training skills. We teach the importance of Recall individually if required and how to prevent your dog worrying ponies and stock. Personal one to one training can be very useful if your dog proves to be unsuitable for class environments, as some do find the confinement, proximity of numerous dogs and perhaps the atmosphere of training halls stressful. This is particularly so if they have lacked early age socialisation with many other dogs.
Should any Canine Behaviour issues concern you, Chrissy undertakes Private Consultations and Assessments and will recommend a suitable rehabilitation programme for you and your dog to follow.
We are owned by our three Labradors; Rosie who is 9; Crunchy 4 years old and little Sumer who joined us at 8 weeks old in December 2010. Rosie appeared in an Andrex Television Advertisement when she was only five weeks old and Crunchy and Summer came from a wonderful breeder who specialises in breeding Guide Dogs for the Blind and Companion Dogs.
They are all such good buddies with each other and are great fun to have around!
Training should be fun for both you and your dog so enjoy it and the rewrds will flow!
Okay, commercial over — so lets get on with what you want to know about! |
